Cardamom Butter Cookies

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
6 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp ground cardamom

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Stir flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Use a stand or hand mixer to stir in the butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Mix in the vanilla extract and milk one tablespoon at a time. Form mixture into a ball and knead until smooth.
Roll dough into a log-like cylinder about 8 inches long. Use a sharp knife to slice into 16 rounds (each about 1/2 inch thick).
Lay cookies on a baking sheet. Sprinkle tops with cardamom. Bake for 25-30 minutes or just until edges are lightly browned. Remove and cool on wire rack.
